Top 5: Masters Memorable Moments

Hailed as the greatest golf tournament in the world, the Masters begins today at Augusta National Golf Club. Prior to the opening tee shot on Thursday we are looking at the top 5 shots in Masters history!

Larry Mize – 1987

Our first memorable shot was produced by Larry Mize who beat Greg Norman in a playoff at the 1987 Masters. With water lurking past the pin, Mize holed an exceptional bump-and-run pitch shot from approximately 100 feet. Norman was unable to convert his birdie putt, therefore handing Larry Mize the green jacket.

Tiger Woods – 2005

Having hit his tee shot left Tiger was faced a delicate chip on the Par 3 16th. After much deliberation, he pitched the ball at the top of ridge allowing it to release to the right, towards the hole. The ball hesitated an inch before the hole finally dropped in cup giving Woods a much-needed birdie and stunning opponent Chris DiMarco. Woods was able to capitalise on this, later beating his playing partner in a playoff.

Phil Mickelson – 2010

After a wayward tee shot on the 13th hole Phil Mickelson attempted an impossible shot. With his ball sitting in the pine straw and next to a tree he pull a 6-iron from him bag. Striking the ball between two trees he managed to fly it over the dangers of Rae’s Creek and land it 3 feet from the pin. This miraculous shot gave him the momentum to claim his third Master’s title.

Louis Oosthuizen – 2012

Louis Oosthuizen produced a magnificent golf shot in the final round at the 2012 Masters. He was rewarded with an albatross after pulling a 4-iron and finding front part of the green with his second shot. After the ball found the putting surface it rolled the length of the green to eventually drain in the bottom of the cup. At 253 yards, Oosthuizen’s shot was the longest albatross in the history of the tournament.

Bubba Watson – 2012

Finding himself in playoff with Louis Oosthuizen, in 2012, Bubba Watson pulled his tee shot into a crowd of trees. He took on an extremely tough shot hitting a high 45-yard hook that shaped around trees and television towers to find the green. This superbly executed shot allowed Watson to finish with a two-putt par and collect his first green jacket.
