Playfinder teams up with Fit and Fed to deliver fantastic summer charity programme

Over the summer Playfinder has been working hard to support StreetGames’ innovative Fit and Fed campaign to deliver its incredible programme for struggling young people.
The project offers fun physical activities and nutritious, healthy meals to some of society’s most vulnerable young people. It’s a response to demand from the existing StreetGames’ network and a growing body of research into the triple inequalities of holiday hunger, isolation, and inactivity.
Playfinder threw its expertise behind the cause by securing discounted booking fees for projects. One of those projects was run by Youth Engagement Solutions (YES), who teamed up with Teth and Brent Council to deliver a superb holiday programme for Brent’s children.
Further to helping secure booking slots through the six-week programme, Playfinder was on the ground to help at Brent’s Ark Elvin Academy and Bridge Park Leisure Centre. Brent’s programme ran between Monday 29 July to Friday 30 August (10.00am to 3.00pm) and cost £4 per child each day or £100 for the full 5-week programme.
There are free services available to those who receive free school meals. A freshly prepared lunch main course and dessert are offered daily, while food goody bags are also handed out to each child when they head home.
Activities for the children include martial arts, football, t-shirt printing, basketball and whole host of fun games. Playfinder attained discounted booking rates for outdoor football sessions at Brent’s popular Ark Elvin Academy. The rest of the activities are hosted at Bridge Park Leisure Centre on Harrow Road.
Fit and Fed launched in the summer of 2017, the programme succeeded in reaching 15,500 young people across 251 sites, in just its first year of operation. During that time, a massive 90,000 meals were served to young people in need.
Playfinder will continue to support StreetGames in its bid to keep 70,000 children Fit and Fed every year by 2021. Fit and Fed has already reached over 25,000 young people already and Playfinder is incredibly proud to help make a difference.
