Our superb summer of sport keeps hotting up and the next showcase event is the Vitality Netball World Cup. The sports most prestigious competition is being held in Liverpool and runs between July 12th to July 21st.
England host the tournament as Commonwealth Games champions after a thrilling victory at the death over Australia last year and they will be desperate to follow up the result to ensure coach Tracey Neville heads into retirement on a high.
Netball is hugely popular in the UK and is enjoying a halcyon period with participation numbers growing all the time. Playfinder reported significant increases in netball bookings and enquiries during the Commonwealth Games and a similar uplift is expected during the World Cup.
England Netball found that 130,700 adult women started playing the sport or begun playing it more after England’s heroic Commonwealth Games gold medal on the Aussie Gold Coast.
And it’s not just a woman’s game anymore. A men’s equivalent – ‘Nets’ – is gaining global recognition. Mixed netball matches are thriving too and the number of Playfinder bookings are on the rise.
To celebrate the start of the Netball World Cup, Playfinder has created an interactive map to show netball players where the best netball facilities are in London to play on during the tournament and beyond.
Netball has a fantastic social scene as well as helping people keep physically healthy. Why not organise a game of netball and catch the action on TV once you’ve finished?
